Based on the earlier Char B1 (of which only 34 were built), the Char B1 bis (bis mean ing second version or mark) was fitted with 60mm of armour and the new APX4 turret with a 47mm gun. Production of the Char B1 bis begun in 1937, with production being spread over several different companies
